Get It Out
Whether it is through our newscast, website or social media, we want to broadcast the news to our audience as soon as possible. Besides sending our MJs and reporters out to cover stories, we are also asking them to take pictures of the event, tweet updates and record short video so we can send out updates. The pictures and tweets our MJs and reporters send are really effective. For example, Joy Wang was working on a package on local efforts to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. She tweeted a picture of what one of the churches in the local Filipino community is doing. After we saw her tweet, we used ATVN's Twitter to retweet that.
Another story that we received tweets from our MJ was the press conference where council members wanted State Senator Calderon to step down. Isabella Sayyah was covering the event and she tweeted images and updates back to us.
Since I was the video producer for this week so I was trying to make use of ATVN's social media to find interviewees for our stories. For example, I tweeted that ATVN wanted to talk to Hawaiian students and any LGBT advocates for our story on Hawaii legalizing gay marriage.
The convergence of ATVN's website, social media and newscasts is important because we can utilize different sources to help gather and distribute news. For example, we wanted one of our MJs who covered the story of Jennifer Hudson receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to record a short video and send it back to us. If we were able to get the video, we could have uploaded the video onto the website and published the story. This also helps us get the news stories out to our audience faster.
