Don't Be Afraid to Fail
Creative extras have become more frequent on our Thursday shows as we have become more comfortable in our producing roles. We have experimented with live guests, live shots, and reporters at the flash camera. We have also done a lot of ANCGs and used special graphics for stories, especially those involving winds or fires.
I think it is really important to include creative elements in our shows to keep the attention of our audience and to keep them interested in our broadcast. I think that sometimes we hold ourselves back because we are afraid something won’t work out so we would rather play it safe. However, I think it is better to try new things and continue to challenge ourselves so that we can learn to produce even better newscasts.
This week, as the graphics producer, I was focused on making sure that all of the ots graphics and cgs were in correctly. We didn’t have anything especially crazy this week but we did include a lot of ANCGs which are always good for stories with a lot of facts and numbers. The full screen graphics are visually appealing to our audience and allow viewers to understand the story better.
Next week, when I am the video producer, I really want to have a reporter do a live tease for their story. I also want to do something creative with the 1 pm show on Wednesday since it will be my last time producing for that as well. Those two shows will be my last opportunities to try new and creative things for the semester so I am really looking forward to taking advantage.
