Producers

Hindsight is 20/20

Looking back at all of the positions I have held at ATVN, being a producer has definitely been the most challenging but also the most fun. As a producer, I am much more aware of the multitude of elements that go into making each show a success. That being said, there are a few things I wish I knew back when I was an MJ.

As an MJ, I was always focused on my particular assignment and didn’t realize how busy the producers actually were. Now that I am a producer, I am much more aware of all of the parts of the show that need to come together so we can make the air. I wish I had been more aware of this so that I could have done more to help the producers at the time. I also wish I had been more aware of graphic placements in the run down. I know that I always made my CGs but looking back now, I am not sure they were always in the right place. I wish I would have known some of these things so that I could have added more value to the broadcast during my shifts.

The advice that I would give to current MJs is to make sure you have double and triple checked your work before you get a producer to look at it. If you are writing, make sure everything is in capital letters and nothing is misspelled. If you are editing, make sure you have added pad and adjusted the audio levels. If you are waiting to be assigned, look for any missing outcues, runs, and CGs that might not be in each story (I promise the producers will love you for it!).

It is hard to believe that we are going into our last week of shows for the semester. I am looking forward to putting all that I have learned into the broadcast so that we can have the best show yet!
