A Week of Election Coverage
Election 2012 was finally here!
The Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday producing teams had very important roles in the Decision 2012 coverage. Monday focused on candidates' last push, Tuesday was entrenched in the rush of Election Day, and Wednesday was responsible to focus on the post-election results and response.
On Tuesday night, I had the special role to lead produce ATVN's live election coverage. I helped produce over four hours of election coverage with live shots from all across the Los Angeles. It was an exhilarating night full of commotion, but it turned out to be an incredible show thanks to all the crew, reporters and producers.
And by the time of my normal day-of-air shift on Thursday, all votes were cast and counted. President Obama won himself a second term in office, Measure B and Proposition 30 passed in California, and gay marriage and marijuana legalization legislation passed in several states across the nation. Besides some that were too close to call, Decision 2012 races came to a close. I didn't think there were very many post-election stories to cover on Thursday. But I soon learned that just because the polls closed didn't mean the election buzz ceased.
Our Thursday team tried to think of creative ways to discuss post-election coverage. Two aspects of the election that stood out were the Latino voter turnout at the polls and the how social media was continuing to buzz with election drama. We had two reporters take on these angles and package them for the newscast.
These two stories proved that even if the election was officially over, the conversation about the issues are still relevant.
The Annenberg TV News team had an incredible week of Decision 2012 coverage, and I was honored to be a part of it.
