Let's Get Social
From the morning meeting, to right before we are go live, social media should be being used to not only promote the show, but to help it. Honestly, can you think of one person who doesn't use some form of social media site everyday? Exactly. Unless there are people living under a rock, then they are on Facebook, Twitter, and any other social media website to gather any and all kinds of information. It is very important to use these sites to not only promote different stories that are going to be on the broadcast, but also reach out to the community in order to find people to interview for stories. Social media is also one of the best sources of information for stories that our newscast is working on, especially in breaking news situations. This past show, for example, we had a shooting at the Occupy Oakland protest as break news, and Twitter was the source that was providing us with the fastest most up to date news. (We used credible, verified information, of course.) In these types of situations, the line of communication needs to stay strong between everyone in the newsroom, especially the web department so we can keep our viewers and our social media up to date. As a newsroom, we all need to take pride in the work we do and one of our goals is to make sure we are tweeting, and updating our statuses in the field and in the newsroom throughout the day and even we when aren't working at ATVN, because the news never sleeps.
