Paying Attention to Detail

TAGS:

There are many important details that go into creating a great newscast, and sometimes it is easy to let a few of them slip by.

During my day-of-air shift there were several details in particular that I noticed were reoccurring issues including, story lengths, outcues, and CGs.

As video teammate, I had to shorten several stories that were written for the newscast because the budgeted times given to the stories did not match the lengths of the scripts. There were stories that were only given 20 seconds in the rundown, but the actual stories ended up being 30 seconds long.

Outcues and CGs were also two important details that seemed to be easily missed throughout the day. Even though outcues are only three words, it is extremely essential to have them. There were several times the multimedia journalists or I had to go back to the editing bay, and check for outcues. On my day-of-air shift, CGs were also easily missed. There were more locaters that were missing than anything else, but by the end of the day every story had its proper CGs.

I really appreciated how our assignment desk, multimedia journalists, and anchors helped out to put on a great newscast. Everyone pitched in and helped correct any mistakes. As always, I thought that team Tuesday did a great job.

In short, always pay attention to detail, no matter how small it may be.
