Never Settle
I can't believe we are halfway through the semester at Annenberg TV News already. This semester has flown by so far and with only a handful of newscasts remaining, I want to make them the absolute best they can be. Especially since this is my final semester at USC, it's important for me to really make the most of my remaining time at ATVN. So far this semester as a producer for ATVN, my experiences have ranged from stressful, to exciting, to nerve racking, to frustrating at times, and of course, very rewarding.
I've experienced a lot as we rotate as lead producer, video teammate, and graphics and web producer for a full day shift in the media center each week. All three positions are different and require varied tasks and unique responsibilities in order to fully contribute to the newscast, but there are a several things each position has in common, including focus, preparation, team work, and dedication. One of my goals going forward is to continue to demonstrate that work ethic and build on it. Aside from the technical difficulties on Team Wednesday so far this semester, I think our newscast have been solid and we should all be happy with the final product we've put on the air. However, there is always room for improvement and I want to ensure the newscast continues to evolve and improve for the remainder of my time at ATVN.
This Wednesday we had some very special live guests in the studio -- members of the USC marching band drum line! Who by the way, were just ranked the top college band in the nation. It really enhanced our newscast and I would love to continue to try and bring in live guests to make our shows more dynamic and move away from just anchors reading from the teleprompter at the desk. We have such an amazing brand new state-of-the-art facility and I really want to showcase it in our newscasts. It would be great to incorporate a segment from the smaller studio, Studio A, I believe it's called. I'd also like to try and schedule more reporter live shots, whether that be from inside the media center or out in the field, I think that also adds more dimension to our broadcasts. Another way to spice up the show would be to have our Buzz anchor or sports anchor further incorporate using the touch-screen monitor. Hopefully we can get a little more creative in order to have more dynamic and exciting newscasts for the rest of the semester.
Another goal I have is to work on further improving the communication between not only the producing team but also between the producers and reporters and multimedia journalists working on the newscast. It is very beneficial when everyone feels connected and informed about all of the elements factoring into our show. I understand it can be difficult to focus on the large list of tasks each producer has, but I really think it is beneficial for everyone to be more connected and informed throughout the day. That is something I'm aiming to improve in the next few weeks.
I'm confident that working on implementing those goals in the remaining days we spend at ATVN will continue to improve the overall quality of our newscasts and allow everyone to have a final product they are proud of and truly reflects all of the hard work, time and energy we dedicate to ATVN.
