Convergence Is Key
Considering how large the Annenberg Media Center is, having everyone under one roof does make it feel a bit smaller-literally. That being said, there is no doubt that this is a step in the right direction and something I think we should all get used to before leaving ATVN. Annenberg was definitely looking ahead at the larger picture when deciding to put everyone under one roof.
In reality, the convergence of the Media Center alludes to the bigger changes that are taking place in the news industry today. In the past, it was predominantly a competitive environment between different outlets and platforms. The more common it becomes for newsrooms to be comvergent, the better everyone will get at sharing and supporting one another.
As a producer, I didn't realize how much we all collaborate over different story ideas, sources, and Media Center volunteers. In every morning meeting ATVN, ARN, and Neon Tommy all have to decide what stories are best for what outlet. Thanks to ARN providing us with a source they already had a relationship with, ATVN was able to get an interview much easier for our kicker story.
I think our converged Media Center is particularly beneficial for the younger generation students and the MJ's. It's an exciting opportunity for us to be innovative and have a hand in paving the way for Annenberg students to come.
