And We Are Live!

------------Toss Live to Rafael---------—

We have Rafael Garcia outside of our studios. There are some serious  strong winds hitting the USC campus. Rafael how is the condition outside?

---------—Intro Live Strong Winds---------

Kalyn, as of right now we have experienced gusts of winds of about 150 mph. According to the National Weather Service these winds will increase their intensity as the night approaches.

As you can see all the palms are moving back and forth and…..

Oh god…that palm tree is about to fall. Watch out!

Wow. That was a close one.

The Department of Public Safety has issued a campus state of emergency and encourages all students to stay home in a safe area.

You can see all the trees that have fallen down and a couple of glass doors that have been crack from flying objects.

This is something we haven’t seen here at USC. In a official statement from President Nikias all classes have been cancelled until further notice.

The National Weather Service says these condition will last until Friday.

---------Toss back to Studio-----------

So far, this is all we have here at USC. Im trying to hold on to this palm tree because these winds will blow me away!

Back to you Kalyn!

-------------------------------------------

The point of having a live shot is to show something that is happening right away; something that could not be filmed before. Having that element on a show provides the audience the newest information about a story. For instance, on the example above someone watching at home might not know what is going on outside his/her house. And that is the point of having a live shot.

The process of having a live shot can be very hectic in the control room. One thing I learned last week from having one is the importance of running through it before the show at least a couple of times. A live shot is something that can work completely fine in the run through but can lose it’s signal on the live broadcast. That is why it is important to make sure we have good communication with everyone in the studio and outside doing the live shot. It is essentially, team work.
