Creativity is Key

Every week on ATVN we try and make sure we don't make the previous weeks mistakes. We want everything to be perfect; packages

to come in on time, breaking news to go smoothly, and reporters to get all the elements we need. We can't control any of these things, so I think it's important that we focus on things we can control. By this, I mean adding different and unique elements to our show.

Our generation has so much technology and social media to offer- from Twitter and Instagram to the ability to do live shots and post our stories online while the show is happening. So we need to take advantage of this, and use what we have to better our newscasts. There are lots of ways to do this. 

The live shot we did in Thursdays newscast was an awesome start. It was a little shaky and we did have some issues, but overall it went fairly smoothly for our first time doing a live shot off campus! It was really excited to see Conor talking to our anchors with Staples Center behind him! I felt pretty professional. But this is just the beginning

of what we can do. I want to be able to send our reporters to breaking news stories if they happen right before the show, and have them live stream in. I want to be able to do live interviews with people who can't necessarily come in, whether it's a professor from another school or a business man at his office. I like the idea of sending a reporter to do man on the street interviews, but have it happening during the show. There are so much technological advances in our society, that we'd be crazy not to take advantage of them.

On the social media front, there is a lot we can do to get viewers involved in our newscasts. I like the idea of having a Twitter feed rolling on the bottom of the screen during the newscast, showing lots of tweets about an event. I want to be able to show instagram videos, and then talk to the people that took the video. Our facebook page is really great for showing the world our stories and newscast, but are we reaching enough people? I want to spread ATVN all over, so that student from other universities

watch us to get ideas for their own shows. 

There is so much we can do to change up our newscast. But that's the beauty of our generation- there are always things to improve on and new things to learn. We can only keep getting better!
