Hindsight Is 20/20

Each year the producers write a blog about their experiences over the past semester. Looking back, I wish I had read some of the blogs last semester's producers wrote. Maybe it would have eased my mind just a bit going into producing this semester.

It's a weird feeling to have gone through ATVN these past four years just merely writing, shooting or editing a story or two in the newscast. And now the power has shifted. It's all in your hands. You're the one in charge calling the shots.

Don't fear though. Yes, things may fall apart at the last minute. Yes, elements of your newscast won't come together. But you will adjust and find a way to fix everything! You will survive!

You have such an amazing team working with you. From your own teammates, to your executive producers, to your advisers - you are in such good hands! I wish I had known that before this semester. From all the horror stories I had heard, it seemed like the ENTIRE newscast rested on my shoulders and it was completely up to me to figure everything out.

You have your deadlines and responsibilities, but I wish I had realized that my teammates and I weren't in this on our own. Things fall through and you might have to go to plan B - or C or D for that matter - but the show must go on. And trust me, it will.

To future producers, have faith in yourself and know that things get easier throughout the semester. There's so much to learn, but you will get the hang of everything. It seems scary at first, but it's really not as bad as it seems.

Take chances and don't be afraid to make mistakes. You'll learn so much and be a better producer for it.
