CANDLELIGHT VIGIL
There was silence across an entire community tonight. The USC Greek system was devastated by the loss of one of its own. Hundreds of students gathered in an all-row candlelight vigil at Sigma Delta Tau sorority to mourn the death of Adrianna Bachan, a freshman member of Pi Beta Phi. Bachan died in a hit-and-run while she was crossing the intersection at Jefferson and Hoover, early Sunday morning.
"Adri was an amazing young woman and an outstanding member of our chapter. She touched our lives and she will always remain in our hearts and in our memories. She embodied what being a Pi Phi truly means, because she had integrity, honor, commitment, and sincere friendship. We will miss Adri more than we can express."
USC Vice President of Student Affairs, Michael Jackson, was there to show support from the University.
Students lined up to sign two cards – one, a tribute to Bachan, and the other, a get-well card for Marcus Garfinkle, who was also hit by the car and injured. Panhellenic Council President Blessing Waung said she is overwhelmed by the number of students who showed up tonight to pay their respects.
"It means so much to see all of these people come out and support Pi Phi and Lambda Chi because even though it was a member of their chapter, it's still a member of our community and of the Trojan family. And to see them out in such a huge support system, for them it means everything."
"Thank you so much for the tremendous amount of support from the Greek community. Pi Phi and myself sincerely appreciate everyone that has been helping us during this difficult time," the president of Pi Phi, Kelly Wirht, said to the crowd of students.
And as the sisters of Pi Phi struggle to cope with their loss, it helps to know there are many other students who share their grief.
