World renowned violinist teaches USC master class
Violinist Guillaume Sutre of the Ysaye Quartet taught a class at the University of Southern California’s United University Church Monday morning. The class was open and free to the public.
Sutre taught a type of classical music called chamber music for USC master students studying in the USC Thornton Strings Department.
Ten years after founding the Trio Wanderer, Guillaume joined the Ysaye Quartet where he has continued his work featuring string chamber works of Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann and Ravel.
Sutre has also appeared as a soloist with the Orchestra of Montpellier, l’Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and the Berlin-Radio Orchestra among many others.
Most recently, Sutre recorded for Sony Classical, Decca, Harmonia Mundi, Naive, Aeon and Ysaye Records. His recordings received the highest distinctions internationally, including in France.
Professors at the Thornton School of Music said Sutre is a passionate advocate of music and regularly performs world premiere works by internationally acclaimed composers.
Monday’s master class at USC on chamber music and solo violin falls in line with other classes he has taught at the Academies of Villecroze, Nice, Flaine and Aldeburgh.
Sutre is a professor of violin and director of string chamber music at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
