LAPD, FBI Make 168 Arrests in Gang Cases
LAPD and FBI detectives made 168 arrests in a collaborative operation involving unresolved gang homicides according to an FBI report published Thursday.
The 3-month-long operation called Save our Streets was launched in July in hopes of solving 32 homicides in the LAPD's South Bureau.
The operation's goal was to reduce ongoing gang violence during a time when there were restrictions on LAPD overtime hours.
"What it was designed to do was to investigate cold case gang homicide cases to try to bring some resolution to those investigations," said Robert Clark, FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge.
Clark said the FBI was able to help the LAPD by providing some intelligence technology that helped locate individuals that previously could not be traced.
According to LAPD, the average annual solve rate for South L.A gang cases is around 50 percent, through Save our Streets the solve rate has increased to 70 percent.
