LAUSD to Promote Positive Images of LGBT Community
[Updated | 4:36 p.m. PDT: Los Angeles Unified School District officials discussed a special gay and lesbian inclusive curriculum in order to combat anti-gay bullying in their schools.]
The resolution would promote positive images of LGBT individuals, provide an age-appropriate LGBT-friendly curriculum in elementary and secondary schools, and train students, parents, and staff in LGBT sensitivity.
Experts say anti-gay bullying can lead to hate crimes, suicides, murders, and other tragedies.
Sponsored by LAUSD Board Member Steve Zimmer, the measure was created in response to the 2008 killing of 15-year-old, openly gay student Larry King at the hands of his classmate, Brandon McInerney.
Zimmer said he has been trying to implement this resolution for a while, hoping that it will bring consistency in learning styles throughout the district.
This is GREATE! Finally, equality for all....or at least a step in the right direction.
