More Than 2,900 Criminal Aliens Arrested in the U.S.
A week-long operation to remove convicted criminal immigrants as part of the "Cross-Check" enforcement was performed through all 50 states and four U.S. territories-including more than 2,900 arrests nation wide, Immigration and Custom Enforcement announced Wednesday.

The operation was held in response to the Obama Administration's current continuing committment to arrange the removal of criminal aliens and deplorable law violaters.
"The results of this targeted enforcement operation demonstrate ICE's continued focus on the arrest and removal of convicted criminal aliens that threaten the public safety of our communities here in Southern California," said Timothy Robbins of ICE.
The seven day operation was the largest of its kind with 1900 ICE officers, agents from 24 field offices, and coordination with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners throughout the United States.
Officers arrested three gang members, 108 immigration fugitives, 146 with a history of criminal conviction for serious felonies that included child abuse, aggravated assault, and drug trafficking. Those who were arrested could face up to 20 years in prison from prosecution by the U.S. Attorney for returning to the U.S. illegally after being deported for their crimes.
Arrests were made to those convicted of crimes that returned to the U.S. after being deported. There were 103 arrests in Los Angeles County, 37 in Orange County, 20 in Riverside County, 19 in San Bernardino County, 26 in Ventura County, and nine in Santa Barbara County.
Jose Gallardo, 51, is among the many who were arrested. A Mexican national living in North Hollywood, Gallardo was convicted on March 21, 1996 for kidnapping a child under 14 years and shooting an unoccupied dwelling.
The Justice Department is filing criminal charges against Gallardo for "illegally re-entering the United States after having been removed," according to ICE.
Previously in May, ICE performed Cross Check operations that resulted in 4,506 convicted criminals, fugitives, and aliens nationwide.
Aimed towards addressing the issue with criminal aliens that illegally re-enter the country, ICE is working continuously in maintaining safety against illegal criminals that are a threat to the country.
