West Hollywood Approves First Fur Ban

The ordinance must be reread before it can be given final approval. It has not been decided when the ban will go into effect or what penalties violators will face. The City Council is expected to meet in two weeks to work out the details.
Animal rights activists from Fur Free West Hollywood pushed the ordinance. They feel that animals are mistreated for commercial profit and vanity.
Business owners and retail workers oppose the ban, fearing that it will have a negative economic impact.
The city of West Holywood has already banned the sale of cats and dogs in stores and the declawing of cats.
