Discounted Metro Tickets Available for Grad Students
USC's Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) recently launched a program that gives full-time USC graduate students discounted Metro TAP card.
For $25, students can enjoy what normally would be a $75 nine weeks pass. With this TAP card, students can take unlimited rides on Metro Bus and Rail, Metro Rapid and Metro Liner between October 17 and December 16, 2011.
Normally, Metro TAP cards for students require a lengthy application process and students have to enroll with at least 12 units to apply. This requirement can be easily made by undergraduate students who normally enroll with more than 12 units. However, for graduate and professional students, who usually take nine units and three units respectively, meeting this requirement could be unfeasible. The latest program no longer has a unit requirement as long as students are enrolled full-time.
The new program, in addition, provides a quick application process. Full-time graduate students who wish to enroll can apply online through the "public transit" tab of the USC Transportation website (<http://transnet.usc.edu/) and $30 will be charged to their Student Fee Bill directly. The pass is $25 dollars, with a one-time $5 card fee.
Discounted Metro cards can be picked up from GPSS office at Ronald Tutor Campus Center, Room 224 after completion of the online application.
These specially designed TAP cards are usable until students graduate and may be refilled with a regular Metro pass upon graduation.
