Heal The Bay Warns: Stay Out Of Ocean

Dangerous rip tides and rough sea waters are expected until Thursday evening.

Heal the Bay discourages people from going into the ocean because of pollution from urban runoff produced by the rain on Wednesday.

The environmental group warned people to stay out of the ocean for atleast 72 hours after the season's first major rainstorm in Los Angeles.

According to Heal the Bay, the water pollution includes debris and toxins that accumulated for months on sidewalks, roads and riverbeds that were washed into storm drains.

"Unlike sewage, this runoff typically receives no treatment and flows freely onto shorelines and the sea through the network of open channels, catch basins and drain pipes," said Heal the Bays' Matthew King.

The National Weather Service also predicts gusty winds along the coast that would produce dangerous rip tides and rough sea waters through Thursday evening.
