France First Lady Gives Birth to Baby Girl
The wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Carla Bruni, gave birth to a girl around 8 p.m. Paris time on Wednesday, Le Figaro reports.
The presidential palace did not immediately confirm the reports. The baby's name has not been announced.
Mr. Sarkozy checked on his wife earlier on Wednesday before flying to Frankfurt, Germany for talks surrounding the European debt crises. He was not there for the birth of their daughter.
This will be the first child Sarkozy and Bruni have together. Bruni has a son from a previous relationship and Sarkozy has three children from previous marriages.
Bruni is the first woman give birth while serving as France's First Lady.
It is reported that Sarkozy is scheduled to make his way back from Frankfurt to see his wife and newborn.
Mr. Sarkozy married Carla Bruni in 2008. He is the first French leader to divorce and remarry while holding office.
