Cupertino Quarry Gunman Shot and Killed, Reports Say [Update]
A gunman shot eight people, killing three and wounding six others, before possibly shooting another woman in an attempted carjacking Wednesday.
A third victim died in the hospital several hours later.
Santa Clara County Sheriff's Lt. Rick Sung told the Associated Press that the suspect is Shareef Allman, 47, a truck driver for the quarry. Sung said that Allman was at a safety meeting at the quarry around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning when he left digruntled. He then returned to the meeting with a rifle and handgun and started shooting people, Sung continued.
"He is armed and dangerous and on the loose," sheriff's spokesman Jose Cardoza told AP.
Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, authorities received a 911 call that a woman was shot in an attempted carjacking near Hewlett-Packard Co.'s campus in Cupertino. Cardoza said the suspect used a similar gun used in the quarry shooting. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where she was in fair condition.
Authorities recovered a handgun, a shotgun and two assault rifles from various locations.
The Permanente Quarry is a limestone and aggregate mining operation and cement plant owned by Lehigh Southwest Cement.
