The suspect has been identified as a 20-year-old man named Jose Manuel Ramirez. According to KCBS, Ramirez is a male prostitute known as "the shadow" who police say has a criminal record and was just released from a Mexico City prison in June.
Mexico City's chief prosecuter Miguel Mancera said Ramirez and Aaronson arrived at the downtown Hilton in Mexico City and went to the room together. The attack happened shortly after that.

A suspect was arrested in connection with the murder of a U.S. Airways flight attendant on Monday.
Police tracked the suspect by following the GPS system in the victim's stolen cell phone.
Nick Aaronson, 33, was discovered dead in his Mexico City hotel room by co-workers early Saturday morning.
Aaronson had been stripped naked and bound with his own belt, leading authorities to suspect murder. His possessions had also been thrown around the room.
The Association of Flight Attendants Council 66 announced that, although there was no apparent security breach at the downtown Hilton hotel where the crew had stayed, future flight crews will be staying at a different location during Mexico City layovers for the time being.
"Preliminary findings do not indicate a safety breach at the hotel. Therefore, we do not believe our crew members are at risk. However, until this matter is resolved, layover crews will be temporarily relocated to an alternative location," a statement on the AFA's website said.
Aaronson's brother is Mexico to identify and bring his body back, the victim's mother said.
Aaronson's mother lives in West Covina.
