USC Students Celebrate Gilad Shalit's Release
USC students are celebrated the release of the Israeli solider Gilad Shalit who was held prisoner in a Hamas prison for five years.
SC Students for Israel (SCSI) organized a ceremony at USC's Tommy Trojan to release blue and white balloons at 12 noon in honor of the soldier's return. Students were also encouraged to wear the color blue around campus Wednesday.
The event only took about five minutes.
SCSI President Barr Benyamin said that the release of Shalit unified the Israeli people and Jews around the world.
A Facebook event also encouraged Shalit supporters worldwide to wear the color blue to celebrate the soldier's return to Israel.
Shalit was returned to Israel on Tuesday in exchange for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners, many whom are serving life sentences for deadly attacks on Israelis.
