Occupy L.A. Has No Plans to Leave

Despite recent evictions across the nation, Occupy LA says they are not going anywhere.

On the heels of the recent evictions of 'Occupy' movements in Portland, Oakland and New York City, Los Angeles protestors fear that their encampment by City Hall may be in danger.

This comes after Oakland Mayor Jean Quan's revelation that the recent evictions had been planned via conference call.

In response, the Occupy Los Angeles Media Relations Committee released a statement asking Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Council to reconsider if they were planning a similar event.

"Occupy LA has been consistently transparent with City Hall on all matters," the statement said. "Our Occupy LA city liaisons actively and freely communicate with city representatives. We urge the L.A. City Council and LAPD to stand by their resolution of support passed by the Los Angeles City Council on October 5th."

The resolution was co-sponsored by Councilmembers Richard Alarcon and Bill Rosendahl. It called for "responsible banking," an ordinance where banks would be scored and its accomodations and contributions to affordable housing.

The press release continued stating that Occupy LA's cause is fair and that the movement has no plans to leave its current encampment. It also denounced the use of police force and violence.

"We deplore the brutal show of force we have witnessed around the nation. We hold LAPD to a higher standard than we have seen from other cities."

Occupy L.A. is scheduled to march downtown Thursday morning at 3rd and Hope Streets in conjunction with GoodJobs LA.

For the record, an earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Oakland Mayor Quan had conferred with mayors of 18 other cities over her decision to evict Occupy Oakland protesters. According to the mayor's office, Quan and others had only shared their experiences.
