Students, Administrators, Police Celebrate Anti-Bullying Day
John Burroughs Middle School in Hancock Park hosted an "Anti-Bullying Day" Tuesday, bringing together students, administrators and the LAPD for an open discussion.
Students were given the option of wearing personalized anti-bullying T-shirts over their school uniforms.
"We have the assembly as you saw today, we have the bulletin on a daily basis which teachers read to students, also on the playground we monitor and have supervision, we take parent concerns, we do connected messages where we send voice messages to parents acknowledging that we're here to help...it's built into the way the school runs," said Principal Steve Martinez, a graduate of USC.
School administrators shared their bullying experiences with students, reassuring them that it does get better in time, and even makes you a more compassionate person.
Most importantly, students were encouraged to seek out help if they find themselves victimized by bullies.
