Chino PD, FBI Looking for Man Who Shot Police Officer [Updated]
“Someone willing to attempt to the murder of a police officer and terrorize bank employees with an assault rifle is a danger to all of us and must be caught,” said Assistant Director Steve Martinez. “The FBI will continue to work with our partners at Chino Police Department to generate and cover leads in order to apprehend this suspect.”
The assistant director of the Los Angeles Bureau of the FBI announced the reward Wednesday evening as well as additional information pertaining to the case.
Police say the California Bank and Trust on Riverside Drive was robbed by a 25-40 year-old white male with a stocky build.
The suspect was seen leaving the bank in a vehicle described as a dark-grey Nissan Maxima with tinted windows with an Arizona license, but investigators say the suspect may have removed or switched vehicles.
“We are continuing to ask for the public’s assistance n this important matter. This suspect will be brought to justice with your help,” said Chino Police Chief Miles Pruitt.
The shooting occurred last Wednesday morning after 11 a.m. at a Chino California Bank and Trust when the unidentified robber stormed the building and stole an unspecified amount of cash, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.
Surveillance video showed the man wearing a ski mask and carrying a black rifle.
A officer was on patrol when he saw the suspected robber who shot him, said Massiel Ladron-De Guevara, a spokeswoman for the Chino Valley Fire District.
The officer, who wasn't immediately identified, drove himself to a hospital and was in stable condition, authorities said.
No bank employees or customers were injured. The officer's injuries are not life-threatening, California Bank & Trust Senior Vice President Steven Borg said in a written statement.
