Ex-'Survivor' Producer Extradited To Mexico For Wife's Murder
The Hollywood producer accussed in the death of Culver City restauranteur Monica Beresford-Redman has been extradited to Mexico, according to attorneys.
In April 2010, Mrs. Beresford-Redman was found in a sewer cistern in the Cancun resort where she and her husband, Bruce Beresford-Redman, were staying after he allegedly had an affair with a co-worker.
Although initially ordered to stay in Mexico after his wife’s body was found, Beresford-Redman disregarded this and returned to his home in Palos Verdes. He surrendered to U.S. authorities when a warrant was issued for his arrest in Mexico.
Beresford-Redman made no attempt to appeal the extradition request, and was sent to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo Wednesday morning, where he will stay in custody until his trial, according to his attorney.
Hirsch retains that the “Pimp My Ride” co-creator “is innocent, and it is his hope that the court in Mexico will assure that he receives a fair trial in which, he is confident, he will be exonerated.”
The family of Monica Beresford-Redman does not share these hopes.
“It is our hope that Mexico will pursue his prosecution zealously and that once convicted, Bruce Beresford-Redman will be sentenced the maximum term allowable by Mexican Law," family attorney Alison Triessl said.
Mexican courts do not possess the same jury system as American courts, so Beresford-Redman will be tried by the judge who issued the initial warrant for his arrest.
He could be sentenced from 12 to 30 years in a Mexican prison if convicted.
