Apple Reaches 25 Billion App Downloads
Users of Apple products such as iPhones, iPads and iTouches have set a new record - 25 billion apps downloaded.
The news was unveiled on Apple's website Monday, only a few weeks after its announcement on February 13 that the person who downloaded the 25 billionth app would be rewarded with a $10,000 iTunes gift card.
That person was Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China, who set the record with his download of the free "Where's My Water?" puzzle game.
Apple has experienced an enormous surge in app downloads in the past eight months, having set a previous record of 15 billion downloads last July. There are currently more than 550,000 apps available in the store, which has only been in existence for four years.

College students have greatly contributed to the download of those apps. "I am not surprised by the news," said Conner Wagenseller, a freshman at USC. "I have over sixty apps on my iPhone. I use it to call, message, email, watch movies, listen to music, surf the web, play games, and the list goes on."
Apple's main competitor, Google, has a long way to go to catch up. It announced the download of its 10 billionth app from the Google Android store in December.
Apple may discuss the downloading milestone in its media conference on Wednesday, where the company is expected to unveil the latest iPad.
