Streets across Los Angeles County will be shut down starting Wednesday night as a 340-ton boulder is moved from Riverside County to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The Transportation Department announced that 60 intersections along the Wilshire Boulevard Miracle Mile will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Wednesday until Friday. Field crews will also remove street lights and disassemble overhead poles and wires along the route.

The L.A. Department of Transportation wants drivers to “use caution if driving on the moving route streets during this timeframe and obey all LADOT, Los Angeles Police Department and County of Los Angeles officers’ directions.”

The boulder just passed through Rowland Heights on Sunday night, and recently left La Mirada. On Wednesday it will travel through Long Beach and Carson. The rock will travel on north on Vermont, west on 190th, north on Normandie, west on Artesia, north on Western, east on Florence, and north on Figueroa on Thursday. On Friday it will go north on Figueroa, west on Adams, north on Western, west on Wilshire, north on Fairfax, and east on Sixth Street.

The rock’s journey can be tracked at www.lacma.org/levitatedmass.

The boulder’s journey started on February 28. It will travel 105 miles through 22 cities in Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and Los Angeles counties. The boulder is being carried in a transporter designed for maximum safety.

On Saturday the rock will arrive at LACMA where it will become part of an exhibit “Levitated Mass” by Michael Heizer. Museum visitors will pass under the boulder through a 456-foot slot carved under it.
