Romney's Adviser to Head VP Search

Beth Myers will head the search for Romney's running mate.

Mitt Romney is moving forward as the presumptive presidential nominee by naming his longtime adviser to head up the search for a possible running mate.

The Republican Presidential candidate has chosen Beth Myers to lead the vice presidential search. Myers was Romney's chief of staff during much of his administration as Massachusetts governor and managed his 2008 presidential bid.

"Romney needs to do one of two things: satisfy the conservative base and not frighten the independent moderate voters," said USC Professor Sherry Bebitch Jeffe.

This news comes just one week after his Republican rival, Rick Santorum, suspended his campaign for a presidential bid.

Some experts believe Romney's move is necessary and timely.

"I would keep people interested as long as possible right through the convention," UC Irivine Political Science professor Mark Petracca said. "Why take away interest? It's the only part of the horse race left."

Petracca also noted that Romney is in the process of choosing a vice president that will elevate to national prominence simply by virtue of being on Romney's ticket.

No possible vice presidential names have been released yet.
