Students Find Financial Aid Through 'Cash for College'
Students searching for a way to pay for college learned about financial aid applications, scholarships and grants at "Cash for College," a two-day college and career convention hosted by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and UNITE LA.
The convention, which began Wednesday, is designed to help middle school and high school students, immigrant students and their families find financial aid opportunities.
"It can be a little hard, but it's not impossible," said volunteer Sofia Rivas in regards to finding financial aid. "There are a lot of opportunities for you."
The convention featured financial aid presentations, college life workshops and an interactive exhibit hall.
At the workshops, students gained information on a variety of important topics like preparing a personal statement, applying for scholarships and where to find essential resources for the college application process.
The exhibit hall also featured a hands-on element for attendees. There, college recruiters were available to answer students and families' questions regarding schooling and career exhibitors explained what kind of classes to take for pursuing different careers.
"I don't have to go out to the colleges," said high school senior Jocelyne Soto. "So it makes it a lot easier for me."
This year's marks the convention’s 11th year in operation. Over 10,000 students and family members are expected to attend.
