UC Riverside To Open Medical School
A national accrediting agency announced Tuesday the approval for the University of California, Riverside's medical school .
The new school, which will be the sixth medical school in the UC system and the first to open since the late 1960's, will begin enrolling students as early as next summer.
Last year, the same accreditation panel rejected the University's proposal in fear that it would not be able to find sufficient financing. The school was able to obtain $100 million in donations from both private and public sources including the UC system, Riverside County, the Desert Healthcare District and several affiliated hospitals.
The donations will be enough to run the school for ten years.
UC Riverside will begin accepting applications later this month to enroll a class of 50 students next August.
