Supreme Court To Meet on Prop. 8
Defenders of Proposition 8, the California proposition that limited marriage to a man and a woman, will make a appeal to the justices on Friday.
The court will hear many other appeals for the rights married gay couples under federal law. Several appeals courts have struck down parts of the Defense of Marriage Act, which the justices could address.
Before anyone can get too anxious on a judicial ruling on gay rights, USC LGBT Director Vincent Vigil said the court could delay to hear the case.
"I think people want to make sure that we stimulate our economy," Vigil said. "The Economy is number one and social issues, unfortunately, will have to take a side-step."
The Supreme Court usually hears a case if they disagre with the lower-court ruling, but the decision could depend on
If the court were to take up the Propistion 8 case, the hearing will not take place until June. However, if the appeal is turned down then gay marriage will become law in California.
