Coliseum Workers Charged With Embezzlement
Two former Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum employees were charged with embezzlement Wednesday for allegedly extracting $3,900 from the payroll system.
Ulises Luna, 33, and Maria De La Torre, 38, are each charged with one misdemeanor, grand theft by an employee, embezzlement, receiving or possessing stolen property and approving a forged document, reported the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.
Luna and De La Torre are expected to appear in court on Jan. 7 for their arraignment.
Luna is accused of working with De La Torre to continue to have checks made in his name and delivered to him in exchange for splitting the money after he was laid off in December.
Officials report that Luna cashed at least 10 checks totaling to $3,880 between January and April.
Both former employees could face up to three years in jail and would be required to compensate the Coliseum Commission for the financial loss.
De La Torre repaid $1,500 after resigning from her position at the Coliseum, according to the District Attorney's Office.
