LAX Terminal Gets High-End Makeover
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa unveiled a list of new high-end retailers and restaurants Wednesday that will be opening next year in the newly expanded Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX.
The $1.5 billion expansion will provide travelers with a wide range of dining options including spots by well-known chefs and even a caviar and champagne bar.
Australia-based real estate and mall developer Westfield Group selected the new tenants in an effort to expand and modernize the international hub while giving it new flavor.
"Westfield's development in the new Tom Bradley International Terminal will showcase L.A.'s distinct style and spirit, keep LAX competitive in the global market, increase international tourism, and put Angelenos to work now and for years to come,'' Villaraigosa said.
Expanded concessions at the terminal are projected to create an estimated 1,700 jobs.
"A major focus of our customer service improvements is to create a cohesive, memorable and high-quality dining and shopping experience with a variety of new and innovative options that offer a `sense of place' reflecting the culture, cuisine and trends of Los Angeles," Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey said.
Retailers coming to the airport in Spring 2013 include: Bvlgari, Emporio Armani, Coach and Victoria's Secret stores, and Hugo Boss, Fred Segal, Michael Kors and Kitson boutiques.
A second phase of the construction, which won't be completed until 2014, will create new airline gates capable of holding the new Airbus A380 super jumbo jet, Boeing 747-8 intercontinental jumbo jet and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
