Twists in Pistorius Case

Officials removed the lead investigator from the case.

The lead investigator in the Oscar Pistorius case, Hilton Botha, is facing attempted murder charges himself.

According to CNN, Bulelwa Makeke, the spokeswoman for South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority, stated Thursday that Botha should resign his position as investigator "for the credibility of the case going forward."

Botha was charged for allegedly shooting passengers on a minibus in 2011. The case was recently reinstated by the court.

Since this revelation, the prosecution replaced Botha with a new lead investigator, Lt. Gen. Vinesh Moonoo. Moonoo is known as one of South Africa's top detectives and is expected to "gather a team of highly skilled and experience detectives" for the case against Pistorius.

A decision on Pistorius' bail has not yet been reached, and hearings are scheduled to resume on Friday. Prosecuters are accusing Pistorius of premediated murder.

Pistorius claims that he mistook his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, for an intruder in his house during the early morning on Feb. 14.

In his statement to the police, Pistorius claims that he felt vulnerable to an intruder because he was not wearing his prosthetic legs. However, the prosecution argues that in order to shoot Steenkamp, Pistorius must have intentionally targeted her while wearing his legs.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel also questioned why Pistorius did not try to wake up his girlfriend when he heard a possible intruder in his bathroom.

Defense attorney Barry Roux disputed Nel's argument by explaining that once Pistorius realized he shot his girlfriend, he immediately picked her up and rushed her downstairs to get her to a hospital. The defense is also arguing that the prosecution's evidence is questionable because officers trooped through Pistorius' home without wearing foot covers and failed to properly investigate the area.

Pistorius has been held in a police station, rather than a South African prison, since his arrest. A decision on Pistorius' bail is expected to be reached Friday.

Pistorius, also known as the Blade Runner, is a famous Olympian and Paralympian who competed in the 2012 Olympic Games.
