Middle Schoolers Celebrate National Pi Day
Math academy students at Millikan Middle School in Sherman Oaks celebrated National Pi Day Thursday with pie, games and contests.

Money raised during the event will go towards a scholarship fund for Millikan Middle School students who otherwise would not be able to attend field trips, according to school officials.
Millikan parents and teachers, as well as Ralph's grocery stores and Domino's Pizza, sponsored the Pi Day festivities.
Students said the highlight of the event was a pie-throwing contest aimed at teachers and John Plevack, the principal of Millikan Middle School.
A pi-recitation contest also took center stage at the middle school math academy.
Charles Mendes won the top prize for reciting 471 digits correctly; Emilia Lundmark came in second place with 453 correct digits; and Olivia Goldberg came in third with 440 digits.
Millikan Middle School serves over 2,000 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The school is unique in that it offers a Magnet Performing Arts program as well as a science program, a civics program, a performing arts program and a math academy.
