Mayor Villaraigosa Endorses Martinez in 6th District Race
Martinez is bidding to take over the unexpired term of former Councilman Tony Cardenas, who was to the U.S. House of Representatives last fall. The 6th District includes Arleta, Lake Balboa, North Hollywood and Panorama City.
"Nury Martinez's values, abilities and leadership will be a tremendous asset to the residents of the San Fernando Valley," Villaraigosa said. "On the school board, she has worked tirelessly to ensure that precious education dollars are directed to the classroom and led the effort to improve the district's college and career prep programs."
Martinez, a Sun Valley resident, is the director of environmental non-profit Pacoima Beautiful and used to serve on the San Fernando City Council. She is running against Cindy Montanez, one of Villaraigosa's former commissioners.
"I am running for City Council to make City Hall a government that L.A.'s residents can be proud of and is responsive to their needs," Martinez said. "We have to make sure City Hall is laser-focused on addressing the priorities of middle class families and working people."
Martinez has also been endorsed byJose Huizar, Ed Reyes and Paul Koretz, former legislators Howard Berman and Bob Hertzberg and the labor group, SEIU.
The special election will be held May 21.
I'm sure NURY MARTINEZ will go on to do a whole lot of NOTHING in City Council like she did on the School Board. Good luck East Valley!
