Alpha Gamma Delta to Return to the Row
The USC Panhellenic Council announced Tuesday Alpha Gamma Delta will take a place on the Row next fall for the first time in 30 years.
Alpha Gamma Delta was chartered at USC in 1928, but the chapter was closed in the '80s due to low enrollment. The sorority owns a house on the Row that has been rented out to professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi for the last 18 years.
"The Panhellenic Council is pleased to welcome Alpha Gamma Delta to colonize and be a part of our greek community in the fall of 2013," said Panhellenic Council President Roxie Friberg in a statement. "The Panhellenic executive board is working closely with the Alpha Gamma Delta colonization team members to smooth out the colonization details."
"The organization has strong representation both nationally and among the surrounding Los Angeles community, giving us the opportunity to work with a large and varied alumni base," said USC Panhellenic Vice President of Communications Kim Barnhill.
Alpha Gamma Delta will become the first new Panhellenic sorority since 2007. Sigma Delta Tau was the last new sorority to establish a chapter at USC.
This move will leave Alpha Kappa Psi without a house. Current member Mathian Vali says there are plans to move into another house within the next year.
"Our time was coming," Vali said. "We've been preparing for it, but obviously no one wants to lose their house."
