A section of Coldwater Canyon Avenue where six-day-a-week closures had occurred for the last month reopened two days ahead of schedule.

Construction between Mulholland Drive and Ventura Boulevard had been expected to last through Thursday, but Department of Water and Power officials announced Tuesday that the work had finished two days ahead of schedule.  Construction began on a century-old water line one month ago, on March 23.

Left-turn restrictions in the construction area will remain in effect until June 1.  DWP's announcement ends a long stretch of closures on Coldwater from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays.

The construction was needed to replace a 60-inch, 99-year-old DWP water line that ruptured in 2009, which prompted nearly $8 million in legal claims against the city.
