West L.A. College Collects E-Waste for Earth Day
The Associate Student Organization at West Los Angeles College hosted an electronic waste collection event on their Culver City campus Monday in honor of Earth Day.

The college's ASO invited students and the local community to bring any old and non-functional cell phones, televisions, computers, calculators, digital clocks and other electronic devices to the event to be properly destroyed. E-waste collections are done to prevent old electronic devices from ending up in landfills.
Anyone who dropped off their E-waste from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. were entered into a raffle to win a brand new Google Nexus 7 tablet.
The actual collection of the E-waste was managed by New Leaf Waste Recycling, a company dedicated to keeping electronic waste and the associated toxins out of landfills.
"Every item that is collected here today, as well as at any of our other events with New Leaf Recycling, we will take apart, the plastic is melted down; brass, nickel, and copper is pulled out, and we will use it for other items to become a new computer, tv, or cell phone," said Renette Young of New Leaf Waste Recycling.
Instead of recycling e-waste, sometimes you can reuse it hence reduce the waste production. I know this data recovery place in Montreal that buys old hard disk drives for spare parts even if they're completely broken. I'm sure there are place like that everywhere where you can sell "e-junk" instead of recycling it.
