The Broad Museum To Open in Downtown LA
The Broad, a new art museum, is set to open in late 2014, joining the architecture landmarks on Downtown LA's Grand Avenue, along with the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Colburn School and the Music Center.
Built by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, the museum will be home to more than 2,000 works of art from the Broad Foundation and the Broads' personal collection.
The works of art are created by artists all over the world, from Andy Warhol to Takashi Murakami.
The three-story building is designed under the concept "vault and veil." The roof is made of 2,500 fiberglass concrete and steel, which will filter the space with natural light.
"Grand Avenue is becoming the civic and culture district of the region for 15 million people," said Eli Broad. "We have great expectations."
General admission will be free to the public, but some special exhibitions may require a ticket purchase.
