Pasadena firefighters asked the public to fill pink boots Monday with donations to help fight breast cancer.

The firefighters were stationed at two intersections in Pasadena for their annual "Fill the Boot" campaign which benefits local breast cancer patients and support groups at Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Phillip Ward, Pasadena Fire Department Captain, explained why firefighters are invested in breast cancer awareness.

Firefighters wore pink shirts as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event lasted from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Foothill and Rosemead Boulevard, and Arroyo Parkway and Del Mar Boulevard.

Fire departments throughout the nation held similar "Fill the Boot" campaign events.

Tina Ivie, a nurse at Huntington Breast Cancer Center, said last year's goal was to raise money for wigs. She also said this year the challenge is even higher because the goal is to raise money for mammograms.
