Athletic apparel retailer Foot Locker gave away thousands of shoes to underpriviliged children at Fred Jordan Mission on Skid Row Thursday morning.
The event was part of the Cares for Kids Back-to-School Giveaway, which is celebrating its 24th year of helping impoverished children.
People started lining up as early as 5 p.m. on Wednesday for the 4,000 pairs of shoes and socks that were donated by Foot Locker.
Free haircuts, clothes, school supplies and In-N-Out burgers were provided as well.
In 1988, when the annual event started, 200 pairs of shoes were given away. The charity event has now given more than $30 million in goods to 125,000 children.
