Frances the Foodie: Jacks and Joes

It's never too late to start the day over!

Craving pancakes and coffee? Head over to Jacks N Joe on Figueroa and Adams. It's "a breakfast all day kinda place."

According to a loyal customer, Ernie Dillard, it's the "best breakfast place in the city." And he's been to a lot.

USC alum Mark Bednorz put his architecture job on hold to start this family business.

"My wife works here, my son cooks here, my daughter pretty much runs the place," Bednorz said, adding," cousins are here, family friends, and the Trojan family that we now employ. And we love them!"

Despite the popularity and business of the restaurant, the owners do no advertising. It's all word of mouth.

"If you love us, you'll tell someone," he believes. "And we hope that you do love us and spread the word."

Bednorz makes the restaurant easy to love by making everyone feel a part of the Jacks n Joe family.

"He comes to your table, asks how you're doing. It's a friendly place," Dillard commented.

Debbie Von Kanel has been a food server at the restaurant since it opened 2 and a half years ago. She is a family friend of the Bednorz who was asked to help support their new business.

"It was important to him to open some place around here for not only the students, but also the community," she explained.
