Two Americans and one German-American won the Nobel Prize in medicine for research that has already helped doctors identify a severe form of epilepsy in children.

Scientists believe this could eventually lead to new medicines for epilepsy, diabetes and other conditions.

Two of the winners, Randy Schekman and Thomas Sudhof are from California; UC Berkeley and Stanford University.

Vladimir Ljubimov and Joseph Skeate are two students from the Keck School of Medicine who gave their input on how this will help research.
