City Councilman Honors Typhoon Haiyan Victims
City Councilman Mitch O'Farrell, whose district includes Historic Filipinotown, led his colleagues in a moment of silence for victims of Typhoon Haiyan on Tuesday.
O'Farrell, who has been encouraging his community to donate to relief funds, also introduced a resolution supporting temporary protected status for Filipino nationals living in the United States.
Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on November 8, and brought upon record-breaking sustained winds that reached 195 miles per hour.
The Philippine Consul General in Los Angeles, Helen De la Vega, says she is grateful to the help the city council is providing.
