Dozens of tornadoes and violent thunderstorms hit the Midwest region Sunday, killing at least eight people and flattening entire neighborhoods.

The powerful tornadoes hit Illinois the hardest with at least six people killed. Two more weather-related deaths were confirmed in Michigan. Illinois officials don't believe the death toll will go any higher.

Mayor Gary Manier of Washington, Il., said hundreds of homes were damaged or destoyed by the tornadoes.

Marcus Schantz, former Springfield, Il. resident, said the devastation from a storm like this takes a completely different toll when it hits your hometown.
