PETA Protests SeaWorld's Rose Parade Float
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals protested Wednesday the depiction of orca whales in SeaWorld's upcoming Rose Parade float.
PETA members donned orca costumes and passed out pamphlets at two Pasadena intersections in an effort to raise awareness about what they say is a deceptive float.
In the New Year's Day Rose Parade, SeaWorld's sponsored float "Sea of Surprises" features a snorkeler, whales, a sea turle and a reef.
On the heels of "Blackfish" - the successful documentary about orcas in captivity - protesters also criticized SeaWorld's treatment of captive whales.
In response to PETA's allegations, SeaWorld released a statement to ATVN, saying that SeaWorld San Diego has a strong record of rescuing marine mammals.
The statement added: "PETA is an extremist organization far more interested in publicity stunts than helping animals."
