New Metro Buses Almost Ready for Service
Metro officials conducted a final inspection of the first of 550 new eco-friendly Metro buses on Wednesday morning at Union Station.
This second generation of clean air buses will feature a TAP card system, graffiti-proof windows and fuel-efficient engines. The buses will also enhance safety for riders in wheelchairs.
The new buses are part of a half-billion dollar plan to renovate and expand the Metro service on and off the rails, according to a Metro official.
The buses are scheduled to go into service over the next year and a half and should last approximately 20 years.
